Mobile Applications are undoubtedly revolutionizing the way people interact with each other, conduct business, complete daily tasks and impact the world around them. In particular, mobile apps allow people to support causes they believe in, fundraise for non-profits, find volunteering opportunities, and even locate sustainable or fair trade products. However, experts and social innovators can agree there is still a lot more that the social enterprise world can do to optimize the opportunity that is presented via these applications.
Social enterprise should consider how applications can enable them to interact with their consumers, create training tools and other administrative tools, enable customers to connect with the fair trade producers that develop these products (such as artisans in developing nations), help the blind or visually impaired complete tasks, help individuals locate fair trade or environmentally-friendly products in their communities through GPS techonology, and reach an international audience.
In other words, mobile applications can transform the relationship that customers have with suppliers, the methods in which customers can discover ethical products and the way in which social enterprises operate overall.
