To celebrate Earth Day 2011, we are dedicating a collection of sustainable products from our Home, Gifts, and Fashion collection to raise funds for Evergreen, a Canadian charity whose objective is to make cities more livable. In the month of April, 25% of proceeds from each sale of products from this collection will go towards supporting Evergreen’s endeavours in greening Canadian cities.
20 years ago, in 1991, Evergreen was launched by three university grads named Geoff Cape, Kevin McLaughlin and Lindsey Taylor with a mission of bringing nature to urban Canadian schools and public spaces. Since then, through their collaborative approach and extensive partner network, they are collaborating with thousands of Canadians coast to coast and working with individuals, municipalities, stewardship groups, community organizations, businesses, schools and other landowners to bring nature to cities through planting, habitat stewardship and community gardening. By providing various programs, initiatives variety of resources, and grants they are helping Canadians in bringing nature to communities in every corner of the country.
So far, they have:
• Provided $5.8-million in grants to naturalize more than 3,600 schools, parks and public spaces across Canada
• Engaged almost a million students at more than 3,000 schools
• Facilitated more than 2,500 community greening events and workshops, involving more than 190,000 people
Evergreen is encouraging individuals to observe first-hand how their actions can make a difference, they are leading them to consider other ways for minimizing their impact on the environment, reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and bringing nature close to home.
This April, purchase a sustainable product from our Earth Day collection and we’ll contribute 25% of retail price to Evergreen. Join us in celebrating with Evergreen’s 20th anniversary as they embark on a new and exciting chapter, and another 20 years of making our cities more livable.
